Parent/Guardian Teaching Writing Workshop

Session 1: The Believing and Doubting Game- Learn how we can use the framework of belief and doubt coined by rhetoric scholar Peter Elbow to give meaningful, supportive, and trust-building feedback to writers.

Session 2: The Reading-Writing Connection (Writing is Easier When You Have Something to Say)- There's a pedagogical history of separating reading and writing instruction, but it was built to serve standardized testing — not learners. Here's how we put the two back together.

Session 3: Pairing Texts for Deeper Learning- Now that you know more about how to combine reading and writing, let's talk about some specific ways to create rich contexts for getting amazing writing by pairing texts.

Session 4: The Anatomy of a Writing Prompt- You're ready to build writing assignments that will provide the right balance of expectations and freedom, and this workshop will show you how to do it!
